Prevention of drug abuse to save young generations emphasized

Speakers at a post-rally discussion of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Khulna strongly suggested prevention of drug abuse has become a crucial need of the present time to check social erosion for ensuring brighter future of young generations by saving them from ruins.
“Drug abuse should not only be controlled but also be eliminated from society. All concerned should work concertedly for this with a zero tolerance police,” Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque told a discussion as chief guest marking the 30th founding anniversary of DNC at CSS Ava centre in the city on Thursday morning.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Helal Hossain presided over the meeting while Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain Hawlader, Additional DIG AKM Nahidul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner Sardar Rakibul Islam Khan, Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah, Captain of Khulna BGB-21 Lt. Col Md. Monjur-E-Elahi and Civil Surgeon Dr. Sujat Ahmed attended the meeting as special guest and addressed it, among others.
Divisional Additional Director of DNC Md. Abul Hossain delivered the key-note paper while Deputy Director of DNC Khulna Rasheduzzaman moderated the meeting.
The chief guest said the government is very sincere to eliminate drug abuse. The government will be successful in stopping drug abuse in society in the way it has curbed terrorism and militancy in the country, he observed.
Only DNC or the government cannot stop drug abuse in society, he said, adding that all should work from their respective positions to raise awareness against this social curse.
Earlier, a colourful rally brought out from DNC office premises led by the chief guest by releasing balloons, festoons and pigeon. The rally ended in front of the meeting place at CSS Ava centre after parading different main streets in the city.
