President Abdul Hamid has urged people irrespective of party and opinion to get united to root out terrorists and their backers.
Mentioning the brutal killing of friendly foreign nationals in Holey Artisan Bakery and attack near Sholakia Eidgah on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, the President said the countrymen are shocked and hurt for such incidents.
President Hamid said this while addressing the Darbar of President’s Guard Regiment (PGR) at Shaheed Captain Hafiz Hall at the PGR Headquarters of Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of its 41st founding anniversary on Wednesday.
“The countrymen never support such terrorist activities because the Bengalis are a peace-loving nation and communal harmony is a unique heritage of Bengali culture,” he added.
“The people of this country would never tolerate such terrorist activities,” said the President.
As the trend of terrorism is changing across the world with the expansion of science and technology, President Hamid said timely and quality training has to be ensured for the members of the PGR so that they can skillfully face any situation instantly.
He said terrorism and militancy are now a global problem and such activities are increasing across the world.
The President asked the members of the PGR to carry out their responsibilities maintaining the chain of command. Each member of PGR must be more efficient and adept in discharging their duties, he added.
“I hope you will remain loyal to the chain of command in discharging your duties and responsibilities and will help improve the standard of the regiment,” the President said reminding them that the responsibility bestowed upon them by the nation is a matter of pride.
Seeking divine peace for the souls of martyrs and deceased soldiers of the PGR, the President said they will be remembered for their sacrifices.

Later, Abdul Hamid signed the visitor’s book and joined a photo session with PGR officials.
Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, PGR Commander Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Harun and high military and civil officials were also present on the occasion.
