President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to play its due role in ensuring the quality of education in the country’s universities. The President came up with the directive when a five-member UGC delegation, led by its newly-appointed chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, met him at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised the President of the activities of the UGC.
They also informed the President that the areas of work of the UGC have widened due to the increase in the number of universities in the country.
They said there are currently 120 universities in the country with about 30 lakh students.
