SM Mizanur Rahman :
There is no improvement to end the destructive politics and rather the on going crisis is gradually deepening further, experts observed.
While BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday asked the government to hold an inclusive elections, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday rejected it out right.
Talking to The New Nation former caretaker government adviser Akbar Ali Khan and Prof. Giasuddin Molla of Political Science at Dhaka University expressed their utter dismay over the rigidity, saying as the two top leaders are unlikely to backtrack, the on going crisis will only deteriorate fast.
“We were in conflicting like situation in the past. We are passing through critical juncture right now. And as things suggest the on going situation will deteriorate further,” Akbar Ali Khan said.
He said, it is a very simple equation that as the two top leaders—Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia do not have minimum respect and tolerance towards each other how and in what way they would be interested in finding a way out of the destructive politics.
“The present situation will remain unchange in the future. We are still in dark about the coming days,” he said.
Giasuddin Molla said the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s press conference has frustrated the people and the whole nation.
“I’m not a journalists. I’m a teacher but I know when a party leader addresses a press conference, he or she also replies journalists’ questions. But Begum Zia read out a statement and placed a set of demands. And she expressed her determination that the ongoing movement will continue until it reaches its logical onsequence,” he pointed out.
Giasuddin, also the President of Bangladesh Rastra Biggan Samity added people were eagerly waiting for Khaleda Zia’s press briefing to get positive message.
“But she did not give positive message rather fueled the on going crisis. I was astonished when I saw her leaving the conference room without giving answer to the journalists questions,” he said.
Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s statement, he said as the head of the government she should have tolerance and give patient hearing to other political party leaders opinion.
“In this regard, the government will have to come forward first and give a space to BNP. But instead of giving space the Prime Minister advised Begum Khaleda Zia to surrender to the court by showing respect to the law.” he said.
Members of civil society, different professional bodies, academics, businessmen, guardians, students and foreign diplomats are repeatedly urging the two major parties — AL and BNP to backtrack from their no return position in a bid to restore peace, save peoples’ lives and country’s all sectors.
But all efforts so far went in vain as the two political parties will never give space to each other, the experts said.
