The four-member police team deputed at the Gulshan residence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda, now in jail, was pulled out on Wednesday afternoon.
The police personnel who used to provide security to the BNP chairperson’s house, ‘Firoza’, at Road No. 79 in the city’s Gulshan area were withdrawn around 3:30pm, her media wing member Shamsuddin Didar told UNB.
He said the police team comprising an assistant sub-inspector and three constables left Firoza saying they were called off by the higher authorities.
Contacted, Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, said he is not aware of it as the Gulshan diplomatic zone police is dealing with the security matter of the area.
However, a police official at the Gulshan diplomatic zone, wishing anonymity, said they are only assigned to ensure the all-out security of diplomats, not any person’s residence.
On February 8 last, Khaleda was sent to Old Dhaka central jail after a special court here sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
