That makes them political leaders. It has become difficult to maintain discipline and honesty among the law enforcing agencies as because they are politically used. Extra-judicial killings and disappearances have become terribly disturbing. Where democracy works, terrorism and extremism are best contained and law enforcing agencies function efficiently.We are undermining the examples for which as a nation we should be proud for going ahead. Mr HS Suhrawardy founded the Awami League and was revered as a living example of democracy. But now his name is hardly uttered. Bangabandhu’s human qualities and large heartedness are not recalled. On the contrary, his mistake of one party rule is seen as an example to be practiced. Our Nobel Laureate Dr Yunus has earned great honour for the country. But he is disparaged and humiliated. Bangladesh is held high for being a moderate liberal Muslim country. But there are groups who are anxious to paint us as a country of Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism.The Awami League is not what it used to be, it is led by leftists who had no place before in politics. Nothing will justify the government to say that they are elected government and shall continue for five years when the election was voterless. Our liberation war should be a matter of great pride for the reason that we fought a war for the ideals of democracy. But the spirit of liberation is used now to justify everything else including deceptive election victory.India’s help in the liberation war is gratefully acknowledged, but that should not mean that India should not support our democracy or we have to be part of India. The crisis is too grave and we must discuss the matter taking national interest into account and not just party politics. Roads and flyovers or power plants are no doubt necessary but the government officials and engineers are there to do these things betterThe political leadership is for organising people to live in peace and unity and not encourage divisions and anarchy among the people. Police or RAB cannot achieve things which must be done politically.Md. Tajul Islam, MP (Awami League):He stated the success story of the Awami League government in details. Described Sheikh Hasina as the best political leader among others. He also asserted that the election was held constitutionally giving the government right to continue in power for five years. He followed his party line and blamed the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami as talking in the same language as that of al-Qaeda. In his view the government is successfully containing extremism and corruption.
