The government is likely to ban the activities of Islami Chhatri Sangstha (ICS), a female student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, at all educational institutions across the country with a view to curbing militancy.
The Education Ministry has already taken some
initiatives in this regard following the instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The ministry has also asked University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Islamic Arabic University (IAU) to take immediate steps to stop all the activities of ICS on every campus.
The ministry gave the directive to UGC and the IAU separately, sources said.
Assistant Secretary of the Ministry Abdus Sattar Mia signed the letters on September 19.
The letters said that it came to its notice in recent times that ICS was trying to motivate female students in some of the educational institutions and simple minded pious women to take part in jihad.
“This student organisation was also involved with sinister efforts to establish a society beyond the Constitution in force to destabilize the country,” the letter said.
These activities could tarnish the images of the campuses by fostering anarchy on them, said the letters.
