The Police Bureau of Investigation, or PBI, has pressed charges against Indian national Wilson Singh over the murder of his classmate and fellow Indian student Ateef Sheikh at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC).
The charge-sheet was submitted to the prosecution division of the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on
Sunday, said PBI Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma.
“There is no witness in this murder and no-one came forward to confess. The charge-sheet was submitted following a scientific investigation reviewing the ‘crime scene’ based on a forensic report.”
“We have received the probe report, which will be submitted to Magistrate Al Imran Khan,” Nirmalendu Bikash Chakraborty, additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, told bdnews24.com.
In the early hours of Jul 14 last year, two MBBS students of USTC, Ateef and Wilson, were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in a bloodied state. They lived in a flat on the fourth floor of the six-storey building on Abdul Hamid Road in the Akbar Shah residential area.
Ateef was murdered with a sharp weapon and Wilson tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan, police said, citing one of their classmates after the incident.
Three days after the incident, Ateef’s father started a case with Akbar Shah Police Station. Though no-one was named in the case, eight unidentified people were on the suspect list
