The two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Amar Ekushey Hall unite have been accused of closing down seven shops in the capital’s Ananda Bazar market adjacent to the Hall for not getting extortion to the tune of Tk 10 lakh and one lakh taka per month from the shop owners.
Sources said, “a group of leaders and activists of BCL Amar Ekushey Hall unit threatened to close those shops on 12th March night.” Moreover, the seven shops have been closed for the last 9 days.
The allegations were brought against the president of BCL Amar Ekushey Hall unite Inayat H. Monon and secretary Imdadul Hossain Sohag.
Shops’ owners said, “on 12th March, Inayat H. Monon and Imdadul Hossain Sohag with some activists of BCL went to the shops around 8.00pm and ordered to close the shops by abusing the shop owners. The shop owners have kept the shops closed yet.”
But the two leaders of BCL denied the allegations. Inayat H. Monon told the New Nation, “I am not even aware of it. It is conspiracy, Someone is conspiring against me.”
“I have been in Magura for the last seven days. I know this, when I came yesterday. The BCL leaders and activists of the Hall are not involved with the cases,” Imdadul Hossain Sohag said.
“I have not received any official complaint in this regard,” said Amar Ekushey hall Provost Professor Dr. Ishtiaque M Syed.
