Police detained four persons including a woman and recovered a knife under their possession from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) premises.
SCBA President Advocate Mumtaz Uddin Fakir confirmed it to media and said they were detained from the event.
On the occasion of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday, a cake cutting and Doa Mahfil was organised at Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium of the SCBA on Wednesday afternoon.
“There were around 10-12 people. Police detained four people including a woman. The rest of them fled the scene in presence of police. Likhon, one of the detainees, claimed that they were all students. They came to the Supreme Court. When they saw the programme, they joined it,” he said.
Mumtaz Uddin Fakir said that they were not invited guests of the programme.
“They have been handed over to the police who find out their identities. No one can join an event with a knife. It is unlawful. Even if they are students, there should have an investigation,” the SCBA President said.
Among others, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, SCBA General Secretary Advocate Abdun Noor Dulal, senior lawyer Yousuf Hossain Humayun and Acting Attorney General SM Moniruzzaman Monir, were present at the cake cutting and Doa Mahfil ceremony.
