PM inaugurates Bangabandhu’s tallest murals

UNB, Chittagong :Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the country’s tallest murals of Bangabandhu at Quaish in the port city of Chittagong. CDA constructed two murals at both ends of the Oxygen-Quaish road (now renamed as Bangabandhu Avenue) at a cost of about Tk 1.20 crore.The height of the triangular mural is about 42 feet while that of another, installed at Oxygen point, is about 26 feet. The construction on the murals began on January last year.The Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of five development projects in Chittagong.The projects got inaugurated and the foundation stones laid are Kadamtoli Flyover, constructed at a cost of about Tk 58 crore, 5.5-km-long Bangabandhu Avenue, expanded and developed with an estimated cost of about Tk 45 crore, construction of Link Road from Dhaka Trunk Road to Baizid Bostami road, including Loop Road at the outer periphery of Asian University for Women, with a budget of about Tk 172 crore, construction of Chittagong City Outer Ring road costing about Tk 1,700 crore.Sheikh Hasina also laid the foundation stones of the Elevated Express Way from the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area to Shah Amanat International Airport with an estimated cost of Tk 3,000 crore.The Prime Minister told the function that Awami League believes in development. “We want more development of the port city of Chittagong, and we’ll do whatever needed. “Turing to the construction of works on the tunnel beneath the Karnaphuly River, she mentioned that the economy of Bangladesh is marching forward defying all sorts of challenges.Hasina also mentioned that BNP unleashed the reign of terror through killing people and arson attacks in the name of foiling the general election and topple the government. “The people of the country did mot accept their atrocities and will never do either in the future.”The Prime Minister said that BNP never thinks about the country’s development as they still cannot accept the country’s independence. Chittagong Development Authority chairman Abdus Salam gave the welcome speech at the occasion.
