Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has underscored the need for the unity of the Muslim Ummah and its pursuit of the great Islamic values of fraternity, justice and inclusion.
She reiterated ‘zero tolerance’ policy to terrorism and violent extremism, emphasised criminalizing Islamophobia and using interfaith dialogue to stem it. Hasina also suggested creation of an OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) mechanism or initiative to settle internal differences within the OIC.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali delivered the speech on Friday on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was scheduled to address the 13th OIC Summit Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, according to a message received here on Friday. The Prime Minister referred to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s call for unity and solidarity within the Muslim Ummah made during the 2nd OIC Summit in 1974.
She stressed developing an OIC humanitarian mechanism and OIC support for frontline battle against climate change impacts. She called for collective action for eradication of poverty through implementation of OIC-2025 Programme of Action. Hasina also underscored the importance of implementation of OIC preferential and free trade arrangements on a fast-track basis. She called for settlement of Palestinian

Earlier on April 12-13, Bangladesh Foreign Minister attended the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting Preparatory to the Summit. Representatives of OIC observers and a large number of OIC institutions and subsidiary organs have also attended the conference.
The theme, deliberated in the Summit Conference, is ‘Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace’ in the context of the turbulent times the Muslim world is passing through and daunting challenges the Ummah is facing.
Internal conflicts and fratricidal civil wars, sectarianism, terrorism and violent extremism, Islamophobia, humanitarian and natural disasters, regression of the Muslim society, problem of Palestine, poverty, issues of development and OIC ten year Program of Action have figured prominently in the Conference discussions.
The leaders of the Islamic world gathered there to close ranks and find common grounds on major issues.
They stressed unity and solidarity to address challenges facing by the Ummah and agreed to work for joint Islamic action which the OIC would pursue for the next three years.
Towards that end the leaders under the new chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have adopted several outcome documents of the Summit namely-Resolution on Palestine, OIC 2025: Programme of Action, Final Communique and the Istanbul Declaration. Earlier on April 12, Bangladesh Foreign Minister attended a meeting of the OIC Ministerial Contact Group on Rohingya Muslim Minority of Myanmar and discussed within the group the course of action ahead and plan of engagement with the new Government in Myanmar. Director General of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) Dr Waleed Alwohaib had a meeting with Foreign Minister Ali on April 13 and reassured him that Bangladesh would continue to get the highest level of assistance in poverty eradication projects. While promising more pipeline projects, the DG also discussed ways of bringing more Sharia based investments in Bangladesh under the ISF window of IDB with poverty eradication being the main objective. He found huge scope for such investment in the Waqf sector of Bangladesh.
