Abbasuddin Ahmed’s birth anniversary celebrated

To celebrate the 118th birth anniversary of the country’s pioneer in Bhawaiya songs Abbasuddin Ahmed, and also to mark the 30th anniversary of Abbasuddin Ahmed Music Academy, a special programme was arranged at Gulshan Ladies Club on Wednesday evening. Principal of the music academy, daughter of Abbasuddin Ahmed and noted singer Ferdousi Rahman took the initiative.
Noted folk researcher, writer and singer Mustafa Zaman Abbasi inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, while noted folk singer and Professor of Dhaka Music College Indramohan Rajbongshi, noted Nazrul singer Sadya Afreen Mallick and noted singer, writer and educationist Dr Nashid Kamal were also present as special guests on the occasion. They also took part in discussion and recalled memories and activities of Abbasuddin Ahmed and his-rendered Bhawaiya songs. Music director Omar Faruk was also present and spoke in the programme. Ekushey Award winner noted lyricist and music director Gazi Mazharul Anwar, singer Rumana Islam, Mehreen, Dithi Anwar, news presenter and singer Shamim Ara Munni, among others, were also present. After discussion, prizes were distributed among the students of Abbasuddin Ahmed Music Academy. Later Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and students of the music academy rendered songs.
