People’s confidence over corona test has eroded severely after Covid-19 test scams of JKG and Regent were exposed.
Experts strongly believe that it would be very tough to restore the confidence unless government works sincerely to ensure the accuracy of the test reports.
At the very beginning of corona testing in Bnagladesh, limited tests have been done and then it took weeks to get a report creating a confidence crisis among the people.
The latest fake reports issued by JKG and Regent Hospital have raised strong suspicions about the Covid-19 test. Finally at one point, many began to lose confidence in the corona test.
When a crisis of confidence has been created inside the country over the Covid-19 tests, honesty of health officials has been questioned outside the country as well.
Meanwhile, South Korea, Japan and China imposed a ban on chartered flights from Bangladesh.
Experts said that it is very necessary for the country to take some visible steps in order to get back the confidence of international community over the test of covid-19.
Sharmin Yasmin, Chairperson of the Public Health Foundation, told media if people lose confidence once, it is very difficult to regain that.
Actually people’s confidence grows slowly, She thinks people will monitor the whole situation, Sharmin added.
Khairul Islam, Regional Director of the International Organization “Water Aid” said the steps taken against Regent Hospital and JKG were essential, but not adequate.
“Some actions had to be taken. It is very important to restore the confidence in the international arena and also for our overseas labour markets.
Khairul believes if there was no international pressure, the steps might not have been taken so rapidly.
Public Health Expert Professor Benazir Ahmed said that centering the Covid-19 epidemic, extreme mismanagement has been created in the health sectors of the country.
Taking actions against only two organizations will not be enough to restore the public confidence.
How to solve? To such a question, B. Ahmed said that some steps must be taken to do this.
First, it needs to prove that there are good monitoring systems to ensure the quality of the test.
Second, those involved in the test process need to improve their skills.
Third, the results must be given as soon as possible after taking the sample.
If these processes are followed, people’s confidence in the test system will return, Mr Ahmed added.
Meanwhile, Department of Health said that they didn’t only suspended the approval of JKG and Regent Hospitals, rather they have suspended the approval of five private institutions for the Covid-19 test.
At present, coronavirus is being tested in 70 laboratories in country.
