Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the journey of home and working place bound people on the land routes during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival this time was more easing than any time in the past.
“Excepting a very few stray incidents, the homebound people could reach their own village homes and subsequently return to their respective workplaces safely,” he told journalists on Wednesday after a post-Eid evaluation meeting of the ‘Eid Journey Monitoring Team’ at Sentu Bhaban in the capital.
The minister, also Awami League presidium member, has described the improved situation in the roadway during the Eid festival as far better and more comfortable ones than any other times.
Quader said the government is working relentlessly to ease the traffic tailbacks for reducing sufferings of the people in some areas.
“The construction of the 22-kilometre new elevated expressway from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Bipile will begin next year to ease the roadway communications for trade and commerce in the downtown Ashulia,” he said.
