Pahela Baishakh celebrated

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengla year 1423 was celebrated in the district with traditional gaiety on Thursday aim high security.
Kishoreganj District Administration and many socio-cultural organisations, educational institutions rulling Awami League, Press Club and NGOs took part in the programmes.
Kishoreganj District Administration arranged a three day programmes marking the Baishakh at Biam Libratory School premises.
A discussion meeting was held at Biam Labratory School Maidan with Deputy Comissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas in the chair. It was addressed among other by Police Super Md. Anowar Hossain Khan, Zila Parished Administrator Advocate Md. Zillur Rahman, Zila Parished C.E.O Md. Anisuzzaman, ADC (General) Tarafder Md. Akther Jamil, Sadar UNO Abu Naser Beg, Upazila Vice-chairman Kamrunnahar Luna, Journalist Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu and Muktijoddha Comonder Haji Md. Asadullah.
A Mongal Shovajatra was brought out in the town led by D.C Md. Azimuddin Biswas and S.P Anower Hossain Khan on the occassion of Pahela Baishakh.
Cultural groups and different bodies arranged various programmes like musical functions, colourful marches and and street side Baishakh fairs in the town.
Dupchanchia (Bogra) Correspondent adds: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar, was celebrated here under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district like whole country on Thursday amid traditional festivities and enthusiasm, remembering the roots the nation.
People from all walks of life welcomed Pahela Baishkah arranging different sort of programme including colorful rally participating local law maker Advocate Nurul Islam Talukder, UNO Shahed Parvez , officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam, Journalist Emdadul Haque taking Panta Bhat with fried fish, lentils, green chili and onions at home, restaurants and fairs following the rich tradition of Bangla culture. However, many boycotted hilsa, a tradition item on the Pahela Baishakh menu, amid campaign by various quarters that it was an invented culture. Mughal Emperor Akbar introduced the Bangla calendar in the 1556 of the Gregorian calendar in a bid to streamline the timing of land tax collection in the then ‘Subah Bangla’ region, the much of which falls under Bangladesh. The day is a public holiday.
The festivities began at dawn with the artistes from Shilpokala Academy welcoming the day with Tagore’s famous song ‘Esho hey Baishakh, esho, esho. The celebrations reached a peak in the afternoon with people in their thousands thronged different popular and historic spots in the upazilas and elsewhere across the area to welcome the Bangla New Year, 1423. As there were restrictions on outdoor programmes after 5pm, many were seen rushing to celebration venues in the upazila from the morning.
Upazila Nirbahi officer Shahed Parvez said that they managed to conclude all the outdoor programmes by 5:00pm as per as per as Police directives. No untoward incident occurred in the area, even they did not get any allegation from anyone in this regard, he added.
