2 Shibir activists arrested in Bagerhat

Two Shibir activists were arrested by the police from Barakpur area under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila when they were taking preparations to bring out a protest procession against the verdict of death sentence of Jamaat leader Matiur Rahman Nizami declared by International Crime Tribunal for his crimes committed against humanity during the Liberation War of 1971 on Wednesday. They are Abdul karim Hawladar (22), son of one Waresh Howladar of village Goalbaria under Morrelganj Upazila in the district and Obaidul Islam Dakua (20), son of one Abdul Kader Dakua of village Khalkula under the same Upazila. Md. Ali Azam Khan, Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Model PS disclosed that just after the declaration of death penalty of Mawlana Matiur Rahman Nizami, Amir of Jamat-e-Isslam by ICT on the charge of crimes committed by him against the humanity in the year 1971 a number of Chatra Shibir leaders and activists were taking preparations to bring out a procession in the town in order to protest the verdict of the court police chased them and arrested 2 of them
Cases lodged for lynching two alleged thieves in Gournadi

Two separate cases have been lodged in connection of lynching two alleged thieves in Char Sharikal under Sharikal union of Gournadi upazila in Barisal district on Wednesday. The lynched two victims were identified as Mohammad Modasser, 35, son of late Hasanat Sardar from Alimabad village under Muladi upazila of Barisal and Rafik Matubbar, 33, son of late Hanif Matubbar from Hazir Haola village under Sadar upazila of Madaripur district. Both dead bodies sent to SBMCH morgue for autopsy and two separate cases lodged in this connection, said Abul Kalam Gournadi police station officer in charge. One case against lynching the two alleged thieves was lodged by Abdus Sobhan, village police, as complainant without mentioning any name of the accused and another case of attempted robbery was lodged by Kamrul Islam Ripon , owner of the house.
Motorcyclist killed by truck-hit in Dupchanchia

 A motorcyclist was killed by truck-hit at Bogra-Dhaka highway nearby Tinmatha area under Fapor union of Sadar upazila of Bogra district on Monday. The deceased was identified as Murad Hosssain, 28, son of late Abul Kalam Azad of Mahalderpara village under Dupchanchia upazila of the district. Police quoting witnesses said that the deceased had been returning home after buying medicine from Bogra Sathmatha driving motorcycle and meanwhile a running truck crushed him running from the same direction on the following day. Immediately after the accident, local people rushed him to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital. Later his condition being detariated, he was rushed to Dhaka for better treatment but he died in the way of Dhaka.Officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia police station Riaz Ahmmed said that an unnatural death case was lodged with the police station in this connection.
Free eye camp held in Bochaganj

Local elite of Futkibary village of Bochagnaj Upazila under Dinajpur district arranged a day- long free eye camp at Futkibary High School premises on Tuesday. Over 6 hundred eye patients were given free treatment. The camp was arranged with financial assistance of Thakurgaon Chamber of Commerce and Industries and technical help of Thakurgaon Grameen Eye Hospital. Earlier Md. Farhad Hasan Chowdhury Iglu, Chairman of Bochaganj Upazila Parishad and Md Ziaul Islam Zia, Chairman of Pirganj Upazila Parishad jointly inaugurated the free eye camp. Among others, Md. Razanul Haque Biplob and Tosadek Hossen Kabul, Director of Thakurgaon chamber and commerce and Industries, Md. Usuf Ali formal Head Master, Md. Shahan Parvej local social welfare worker, Md. Abdul Zalil Superintendent of Pirganj Women Dakhil Madrasha, Md. Nural Haque formal member Futkibary High School Managing Committee , Gopal Chandra Roy President of Futkibary High School managing committee and Gopal Chandra Sarkar Head Master of Futkibary High School, Md. Maksed Ali Head Master of Haji Danesh govt. primary school, Bachendro Nath UP Member, Md. Maksed Ali formal UP Member and Md. Mokaddes Hayat Milon Thakurgaon Correspondent of The New Nation were present at the inaugural function.
2 persons held on extortion charge
RAJSHAHI: Two persons were arrested in the city on charge of extortion identifying themselves as RAB members last night. The arrestees are: Mustaque Ahmed, 36, son of Golam Mostofa of Katakhali area and Beltu, 27, son of Azizul Islam of Benodpur area. Nur Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Boalia Police Station, said on a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid at Padma garden area and picked them up around 10.30 pm yesterday. He said they were involved in extortion and toll collection in different parts of the city after identifying themselves as RAB members for long. Legal action was taken against them on completion of preliminary interrogation, the OC added, reports BSS.
