2 killed in Keraniganj gunfight with RAB

A prime accused in a child murder case has been killed in a gunfight with RAB in Dhaka’s Keraniganj area on Friday morning. The incident took place at Chitakhola in the area. The deceased has been identified as Motahar Hossain, a prime accused of child Abdullah murder. Motahar is accused of plotting to kidnap and kill child Abdullah and burnt him with acid. Md. Jahangir Hossain Matubbar, Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-10, confirmed the incident to the media. “Four people riding two motorcycles were recklessly going through the Chitakhola area in Keraniganj at 4:15 am on Friday. The RAB patrol team stationed there then signaled them to stop,” he said.
Disobeying the signal, the motorcyclists fired at the RAB. Realizing the immediate danger, the RAB members also fired back in self-defense, he also said. “At one point in the gunfight, a motorcycle was able to escape quickly. The other motorcycle fell in front of the patrol team.”
He added that the RAB members rescued a bullet-hit injured body and identified him as Motahar, the accused in the murder case of child Abdullah. A foreign pistol, a magazine, one round of ammunition, a bullet shell and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot.
Immediately after identification, RAB members rescued Motahar in critical condition and took him to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital where the doctor declared him dead, said Commanding Officer (CO) Md. Jahangir Hossain Matubbar.
