Pressure of vehicles on Paturia-Daulatdia ferry ghat has increased as people are making their way for their village homes, ignoring the health safety guidelines amid countrywide lockdown.
On the other hand, for their homebound rush, over 600 vehicles on Dhaka-Aricha highway are waiting for their turn to get on board the ferry at Paturia ghat to cross the Padma river.
Mohiuddin Rasel, assistant manager (commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in Aricha ferry ghat, confirmed the matter to the media around 9:15am on Tuesday (April 13).
Around 250 goods-laden trucks are waiting at the terminal while another 250 small vehicles are waiting to cross the river, he said.
About 16 out of 17 ferries are being operated to carry vehicles through this Paturia-Daulatdia river route, he added.
