Al least 31 thousand cases are now pending in courts of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) in Chattogram.
The numbers of cases in these courts are increasing day by day but there is no shortage of trial magistrates under CMM court. According to CMM court sources, the number of cases in the eight courts was pending 29615 in 2018, which risen to 31608 in the month of September this year. Besides, a total of 3243 cases were filed in CMM courts in the month of September last while 2975 cases were disposed of in the same court in same month. A total of eight magistrates led by CMM Mohammad Osman Goni are discharging their respective magistracy duties in the court. A total of 31608 cases including CR, GR and non-GR cases are now pending before the CMM court, a number of govt counsels sources added.
Talking to General Secretary of Chattogram District Bar Association said the numbers of cases were raised in the courts due to increasing of criminal offenses in the metropolitan city.
