Over 2000 sued for Laxmipur ASI killing

Three separate cases were filed on Friday night against over 2000 people in connection with violence and killing of an ASI of police in Raipur upazila.
Raipur thana officer-in-charge Md Manjurul Haq Akand said SI Jahirul Haq filed a case against some unnamed people for killing ASI Abdul Jalil near the police station early Friday.
Besides, the SI filed another case against 42 identified and 1500 unnamed people for creating violence in the upazila headquarters on Thursday night, he said.
Meanwhile, Raipur Palli Bidyut office AGM Mafiz
Ahmed Kabir filed another case against 600 unnamed villagers for vandalising local Palli Bidyut office during the violence, he added.
Police arrested one Belal Hossain in this connection following the incident.
Local people put up barricades on Laxmipur-Raipur road on Thursday night and vandalised some vehicles on the road protesting frequent loadshedding. The agitated people also vandalised Raipur Palli Bidyut office. Later, police brought the situation under control removed the blockade.
ASI Abdul Jalil was shot dead while taking tea at a shop returning from his duty near Raipur Police Station where he was stationed.
Initially it was claimed Jalil had accidentally shot himself but in an autopsy conducted at Sadar hospital it was found that he was killed in firing from a shotgun, not a submachine gun which he was issued.
