Bharatia Parishad
A rally organised by Bharatia Parishad was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. In the programme the leaders of the parishad urged city authority concerned to give bonus to tenants equivalent to their house rent of two months on the occasion of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The event was addressed, among others, by politician Muhammad Ata Ullah Khan, General Secretary of the organisation Zannat Fatema, its Joint Secretary Mohammad Mostofa and labour leaders Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Mohammad Azahar. President of the parishad Baharane Sultan Bahar presided over the function.
River Protection Alliance
A discussion on ‘Role of Mass Media to Protect River and Environment’ organised jointly by River Protection Alliance and Nongor was held at the Jatiya Press Club with a call to announce May 23 as the National River Safety Day. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Hasan called for building united resistance against river encroachment and pollution. The minister said illegal establishment on the riverbanks of Buriganga and Karnaphuli has already been removed and this drive will continue in future to save the rivers. President of Nongor Sumon Shams presided over the event. The function was also addressed, among others, by Chairman of National River Conservation Commission Dr Mujibur Rahman Howlader and Chairman of Poribesh Banchao Andolon Abu Naser Khan.
