Nari Sangbadik Kendro

A discussion organised by Nari Sangbadik Kendro was held at the Jatiya Press Club on the occasion of its sixteenth founding anniversary. In the programme held on the thirteenth instant Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that the biggest challenge that women face was of discrimination in daily life. He particularly singled out the religious zealots, militants, war criminals and superstition for propagating the ideology of subjugation of women. Referring to the many forms of harassment women face, every day, in a patriarchal society he said that women must stand up to the challenges and face them head-on. He referred to the glorious role of women in the Liberation War and said they had to fight three battles: one of liberating the country, another of saving their lives and the third one, of protecting their honour. To great applause of the audience, he said that although there were male Razakars, there were no female Razakars. He said the struggle for women’s empowerment must continue and women must attain their position by their merit.

Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, BD

A scientific seminar on ‘Metabolic Surgery: Laparoscopic Surgical Treatment for Diabetes Mellitus’ organized by Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, Bangladesh (SLSB) was held at Bangladesh Medical College in the city. The programme held recently was sponsored by the ACME Laboratories Limited with participation of renowned general surgeons from different institutions. Professor Peter Goh from Monash University, Singapore attended the session as the keynote speaker along with Professor Dr Sarder A Nayeem, President SLSB and Professor Dr Mustafizur Rahman, Secretary General, SLSB and other personnel. Head of the Medical Services and Pharmacovigilance of the ACME laboratories Dr Afroza Akhter and other official of the ACME laboratories were present at the session where more than hundred surgeons took part.
