A discussion organised jointly by Industrial Bangladesh Council (IBC) and National Coordination Committee on Workers’ Education (NCCWE) was held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Inu said that the incumbent government had taken effective steps to improve industrial environment, particularly in the apparel sector. He said, “Because of the government’s labour-friendly policies women could work freely in the work place. To maintain this harmonious atmosphere coordination between owners and workers is necessary.” Highlighting the role of improved training to increase labour productivity, he said, “If development was to remain uninterrupted there was no alternative to increased labour productivity.” Inu said the interests of both owners and workers need to be protected. Owners should not concentrate on profits alone, they have to consider the workers’ interest as well.
