BD Mobile Phone Recharge and Banking Traders Assoc
An opinion sharing meting between the Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Dr Shahjahan Mahmud and a delegation of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Recharge and Banking Traders Association was held in the conference room of BTRC in the city on Tuesday. In the meeting President and General Secretary of the association Shafiqur Rahman and HM Badruddoza respectively expressed gratitude to BTRC Chairman for expressing his solidarity with the movement of the association. They also called upon all the traders of the association to be united through forming committee in each thana and district level to meet the 7-point demands of the association.

A workshop titled, ‘Bangladesh Business and Disability Network’ organised jointly by Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) was held at a hotel in the city on Tuesday. State Minister of Labor and Employment M Mujibul Haque Chunnu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Chunnu emphasized to promote people with different abilities a better chance to join the workforce while contributing to economic growth. President of the Federation Salahuddin Kasem Khan said, ‘Bangladeshi employers who have hired people with disabilities speak highly of their performance, loyalty, productivity and regularity in attendance and overall workplace performance.’
University Grants Commission
A 3-member Sri Lankan delegation led by Yasoja Gunasekera, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Dhaka called on UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan at UGC auditorium yesterday to discuss the matters related to Sri Lankan students’ admission into the medical and dental courses in Bangladesh. Other members of the delegation include DC Dissanayake, Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education & Highways, Sri Lanka and Dr. Lalantha A. Ranasinghe,Consultant Surgeon, National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. UGC Chairman urged the Sri Lankan students to be cautious to be admitted into institutes in the private sector of Bangladesh for medical and dental education.
He also said that the oldest medical colleges of Bangladesh are the best institutions for pursuing medical education. Prof Mannan urged both the Bangladesh and Sri Lankan Government to enhance the number of Scholarships and Fellowships for their students. Sri Lankan High Commissioner highly lauded the initiatives undertaken by UGC for expansion and quality enhancement of higher education. UGC members Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled and ATM Abdur Rouf Mondol, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others were present on the occasion.
