Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Monday said none will be allowed to enter Jatiya Eidgah with vanity bags, bags, trolleys, explosives, adding that devotees with only jainamaj (prayer mats) and umbrella will be allowed to enter the Eidgah.
“All the devotees will go through three-tier checking before entering the Eidgah. Police personnel in uniform and plain cloth have been deployed in around the Eidgah to make the security foolproof. SWAT team, bomb disposal unit and dog squad will be stand to put a security blanket over the Jatiya Eidgah,” the DMP boss told newsmen at Jatiya Eidgah ground after inspecting the overall security arrangements here on Monday.
The DMP commissioner said the identical security measures have also been taken for Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Dog squads and bomb disposal unit will sweep the Jatiya Eidgah ground and the area will be under real time monitoring from makeshift control rooms situated at Baitul Mukarram and Jatiya Eidgah through closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs), he also said. “All the devotees coming for the Eid congregation will be checked by archways and metal detectors in front of Shikkha Bhaban, Matsya Bhaban and National Press Club. No vehicular movement will be allowed in this area in before Eid jamaats. Devotees will again be checked at the main entry point of Jatiya Eidgah and VIP point of the ground.
The DMP chief requested all the city dwellers to help law enforcers in conducting search as none will be allowed to enter the Jatiya Eidgah without search. He also requested all to contact makeshift control room at Jatiya Eidgah, police control room over mobile and landline numbers 01713-398311, 9559933, 9551188 and 9514400 or by dialing national emergency number 999 in case of necessary. Asaduzzaman Miah later inspected makeshift control room at Jatiya Eidgah and a security drill of Counter Terrorism Unit on the ground.
