One stabbed to death by friend over monetary transactions in the city on Monday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Ruhul Amin, 26, a staff of a grocery shop at Bazaar Road and resident of Amanatganj area at northern part of the city. Anwar Hossain, officer in charge of Kawnia police station under Barishal Metropolitan Police, quoting witnesses, said alleged killer Suman, was a private car driver and resident of Amanatganj Poultry Farm area. Both, Sumon and Ruhul were close friends have disputes about dues over monetary transactions. On Monday morning both friends engaged in altercation over mobile phone about dues of their monetary transactions. After that at about 4:00 PM Monday both became face to face in front of Kashaibari Pol of Amanatganj near their house and engaged in altercation and scuffle over their dues. At one stage Suman with knife carried by him stabbed Ruhul on neck and hand and fled from the scene. Severely injured Ruhul was brought to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, but attending physician at emergency ward of the hospital declared him as dead, said Sohag and Ripon, two eye witnesses.
Body of the dead victim sent to SBMCH morgue for autopsy. Police trying to recover the knife, arresting the killer and recording statements of witnesses, police sources said.
Shafiul Islam, father in law of murdered Ruhul, said Ruhul was son of Muhammad Ali from Dighaldi under Sadar upazila of Bhola district. He had a son and leaving his service at Dhaka coming Barishal engaged in working at a shop in Bazaar Road area. Sumon was son Makbul Hosaain from Patuakhali and friend of Ruhul. However he did not know about cause of attack on Ruhul.
