Commentary: Minister from Suu Kyi came to lie about bilateral solution

Evil Myanmar government is trying to delay the ongoing process and trying to skip from the grip of the international pressure and our government is misguided by the influence of India to fall into their trap. More than fifty thousand Rohingyas fled from Myanmar after Suu Kyi’s minister came to Bangladesh to lie about bilateral settlement.

Only India, China and Russia are obstructing any role by the UN Security Council to enforce peace in Myanmar. In their view this ethnic cleansing crisis is capable of solving bilaterally.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed five-point demand before the UN General Assembly accepting the need of UN role in dealing with the Rohingya crisis.

Now Bangladesh Foreign Ministry for no convincing reason telling the world that Bangladesh can solve the problem with Myanmar through bilateral discussions and the process has begun because a low-level powerless minister visited Bangladesh.

Myanmar government wants to make Myanmar free of Muslims and after persecuting Rohingyas they will target other Muslim minorities. Having Russia, India and China by their side, they do not have any concern regarding any obligation to Bangladesh. Russia and China have firmly taken their stance in favour of Myanmar in the UN Security Council meeting. Only headache Myanmar now has in EU and USA.

Myanmar has sent a low profile minister to meet our high profile foreign minister, which is a big shame for us. Myanmar Union Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe on Monday repeated the same commitment made by Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on September 19. Suu Kyi has no power and still has been a prolific liar denying military brutalities and making Rakhine State free of Muslims. After the visit of lame-duck minister more than fifty thousands Rohingyas had to flee the country for being alive. It was recalled that in accordance with the agreed criteria set out in the Joint Statement between Foreign Ministers of Myanmar and Bangladesh on 28 April 1992, a total of 236,495 people of 46,993 households had been repatriated from Bangladesh to Myanmar from September 1992 until July 2005, according to office of the State Counsellor. The Union Minister also referred to the agreement made at the senior officials meeting between Myanmar and Bangladesh held in Yangon on January 14, 2000, in which both sides agreed that, in the case of the repatriation of split families and their left behind family members, this process could be carried out on the presentation of legal documents certified by the Government of Bangladesh. This time the verification will be necessary.

This bilateral peace talk is a complete eye wash from Myanmar. Myanmar government is relying on India mostly to save it from strong international pressure that has been built. Only pressure Myanmar will face may come from EU and USA.

Since India will not help us, why should we be under the influence of India to favour bilateral discussions knowingly Bangladesh will be weak and isolated for solving Rohingya crisis. Without collective international move the brutal army will not agree to any solution that requires surety about safety for Rohingyas.

We cannot ignore the crime of genocide committed by the military officials in Myanmar. We should honestly place the demand of Rohingya refugees for Rakhine State to be independent for them.
