Sixty-nine years ago some of the brave young ones showed their bravery about their awareness of what is their right to establish Bangla as a state language. Every year 21st February is observed as a great day of achievement and also sadness for those who gave their lives. Many are too anxious to see implementation of Bangla in every spheres but do not show consciousness of rights. Bengali language is our mother tongue and its importance to us inherent. Every nation or tribe has a mother tongue.
We fought to establish our right to Bangla as a state language in Pakistan context. In free Bangladesh we must show our bravery to establish the rights we have been denied.
We are still observing 21st February like in Pakistan days just as movement for Bangla. Now we have Bangladesh and it is quite unnecessary to emphasise its importance in our life in Bangladesh.
We commemorate Ekushey when the clock struck Saturday midnight with honour, respect and genuine love for our mother tongue. It what about our obligation to ensure our right as a free country. Under the cover of the sacrifices others made on 21st February but we are forgetting that we have no rights as such and deserve no glory of our own to live without rights. We are tolerating all sorts of wrongs and plundering.
We do not think that the best way to respect those who expressed courage and gave blood for Bangla language as their right and live happily with no rights guaranteed to us.
We must know the value and significance of 21st February our young ones left behind by giving their lives for the honour and dignity of living with their right to mother tongue. That is not the only right a free people must have.
Our emotionalism has not helped us much. A nation is not glorified only by what others attained in past but the achievement we have made for ourselves through right thinking and right action.
Our emotionalism has been exploited to deceive and deny us what is our due.
