A oil tanker collided with the container ship in the river Karnaphuli in Patenga on Friday morning.
According to the ports, the container carrying ship MV X-press Mahananda was being brought from outside the port to the jetty.
At the time, the collision with the MT tanker named oil tanker. Then the container ship with the help of the tugboats was taken to Chittagong Dryd. Oil tanker is kept in the 7th dolphin jetty.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Omar Faruque told The New Nation X-press Mahananda was rushing to carry 744 containers imported goods from Sri Lanka. At this time, the Kuwaiti oil tanker MT Burgan was leaving the dolphin jetty.
At one stage, the two ships face confrontation. At this time, two were tightly stuck. Later, the ships were separated with the help of six powerful tugboats of the port. At 11am, the port channel is safe for navigation.
3-member investigation committee formed: The Chittagong Port Authority has formed a three-member probe committee to investigate into the collision of two ships in the port. The port secretary said the committee headed by Deputy Conservator of the Port Captain Faridul Alam has been formed.
The committee will determine the reason for the accident, amount of loss and submit the report within 3 days.
