Staff Reporter :
The opposition political alliance Jatiya Oikyafront is going to meet jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia now under treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) President Abdur Rab will head the team in the first phase.
In the second phase, JSD Vice-President Tania Rob, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gonoforum General Secretary Reza Kibria and Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury will meet her. For that the Oikyafront sent a letter to prison authorities seeking permission.
Oikyafront Office Secretary Jahangir Alam Mintoo confirmed it.
As per the discussion with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan during a meeting on October 22, he said that they had sent the letter to the IG Prison in this regard.
Mintoo said that they had requested the jail authorities to allow the five leaders to meet Khaleda either on Monday or on Tuesday.
He said four or five other Oikyafront leaders will meet the BNP Chairperson later in the second phase.
Khaleda has been in jail since the date of delivery of the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018. She was found guilty in another corruption case the same year, though her party claims that both the cases are ‘politically motivated’.
She has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since April 1 last.
