BSS, Khulna :A visibly arrogant officer in charge of a police station here yesterday earned peoples wrath for allegedly assaulting an elderly villager, prompting a court to order investigation into the charge for subsequent legal actions.Witnesses and court officials said Batiaghata police station chief Moniruzzaman Molla severely assaulted a retired ansar man for “interference” during a murder investigation at a village as he urged him to be cautious against harassment of any innocent person.”Like other village elders, retired ansar member Babul Hawladar rallied at the scene as the OC went to Tetultala village to investigate into a murder case . . . in return Mr Mollah mercilessly beat him and hurled abuses for ‘interference’,” a lawyer who stood for the victim told newsmen.Angry villagers sought the legal actions as a tormented Hawladar filed a case at the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Khulna which ordered the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Batiaghata upazila to investigate into the allegation.”The court asked the UNO to submit his findings by the end of this month for subsequent legal actions,” Hawladar’s lawyer Ali Imran Hossain said. Mollah, however, denied the allegation saying he just rebuked Hawladar as he requested him for “releasing a criminal”. He said he went to the village to investigate into the murder of a shrimp farm owner last month.
