A fine century by Marshall Ayub steered Walton Central Zone to declare the 2nd innings at 329 for 7 in 96 overs against BCB North Zone on the 3rd day of the four-day 4th Bangladesh Cricket League at the Academy ground of Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Friday.
Central Zone with first innings total of 260 runs, resumed the 2nd innings Friday morning with overnight 23 for 1 and piled up a comfortable total of 329 runs to take 421-run lead over North Zone.
One down Marshall Ayub, who was batting with 12 runs, made a composed century hammering 141 runs off 231 balls featuring 18 fours and two sixes while another night watch batsman Zabid Hossain (0) contributed superb 91 runs off 242 balls hitting 10 fours.
Besides, Raqibul Hasan made 16-ball 26 runs with four fours while Sharifullah scored not out 24-ball 23 runs with one four and one six for Central Zone in the 2nd innings.
Farhad Hossain was the most successful among the North Zone bowlers grabbing five wickets for 49 runs.
North Zone were bundled out for 168 runs in the first innings and opened the 2nd innings with a winning target of 422. They scored 22 for 2 in seven overs when bails were drawn for the 3rd day (Friday).
They needed another 400 runs with eight wickets remaining on the 4th and final day (Saturday).
In the day’s other match at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar, replying to Prime Bank South Zone’s first innings total of 262 runs, Islami Bank East Zone resumed the first innings with overnight 345 for 5 and were all out for 407 runs in 119.3 overs on the 3rd day (Friday).
Number six batsman Zakir Hasan, who was in batting with 92 runs, completed a century making not out 128 runs off 188 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes while another night watch batsman Yasir Ali (20) added another useful 39 runs off 92 balls including four fours and one six.
Veteran national coloured spinner Abdur Razzak made a five-wicket haul conceding 161 runs while national all rounder Shohag Gazi claimed three wickets for 109 runs.
In reply, Prime Bank South Zone opened the 2nd innings and scored 204 for 4 in 64 overs to take an overall 59 runs lead against Islami Bank East Zone with top order national batsman Anamul Haque batting with 84 runs off 184 balls featuring four fours and four sixes.
Taibur Rahman added an unconquered 52 runs off 85 balls with five boundaries while opener Shariar Nafees scored 49-ball 24 runs including two fours.
Iftekhar Sajjad took two wickets for 76 runs.
