UNB, Dhaka :
The government has turned town the request of a Japanese company to further extend time for submitting bid for the 1200 MW Matarbari coal-fired power plant, say Power Division officials.
Following the terrorist attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan on July 1 that killed 22 people, including seven Japanese nationals, the government had to extend the bid submission time thrice fixing November 24 as the last deadline. The request for the time extension was entertained as two potential Japanese bidders were unwilling to submit bids until security situation improves to a ‘satisfactory level’ since the terror attack.
According to officials, the two Japanese firms-Marubeni Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation-had been vying for the project after they appeared to be initially qualified bidders. They had been asked to submit their respective final bids in the form of “Request for Proposal (RfP) on July 24.
But the terrorist attack on the foreign nationals virtually halted the bid submission process of the project for some time.
