Starting from the first day of conception to the 1000th day after birth, this period is crucial for maintaining proper growth of a child, and nourishment of both child and mother. To enhance nurses’ knowledge on child nutrition and train them on childbirth and post-pregnancy nutrition management, Nestle Nutrition Institute (NNI) has arranged a countrywide nutrition science fair., said a press release. With the slogan, “The Journey of 1000 Days”, a caravan of NNI will tour 64 districts of the country throughout 66 days. The nutrition science fair will train 10,000 nurses from different hospitals and healthcare centers of the country.
As part of the arrangement, a day-long fair was held at the premises of Shahjahanpur Railway Colony High School in the Capital. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Media Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, was present at the fair as chief guest, while Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Aziz, Secretary General of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (SHACHIP) attended the event as special guest. Among other guests, Prof. Md. Maniruzzaman Bhuiyan, Principal, Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College (HFRCMC), Prof. Md. Daulatuzzaman, Vice Principal, HFRCMC, and Masuda Begum, Director Health, UPHCSDP Naree Maitree were present at the event. 125 nurses were present at the event.
 In his speech, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said, “Nurses play a crucial role during childbirth and afterward, and giving them proper training is a must to ensure good health of both child and mother. The incumbent government has taken different initiatives on priority basis to ensure proper health of child and mother.”
 The fair featured audio-visual display, bioscope and nutrition science quiz in order to help prepare nurses for safe childbirth management, enhance their knowledge on 10 golden minutes after childbirth and its 10 main steps, the benefits of breastfeeding, the negative sides of feeding cow milk to infants, the role of lactobacillus reuteri in preventing constipation and bowel problems, and the necessity of protein synthesis.
 “The journey of 1000 days” will be held in the capital’s Mirpur, Savar, Old Dhaka and Keraniganj, and gradually it will travel entire Bangladesh in different phases.
