3 child labourers burnt in Lakshmipur

Three child labourers received burn injuries at a workshop in College Road area of the district town on Thursday. The victims were identified as Mohammad Delwar,14, Litton Hossain,13 and Ibrahim,10. The trio were admitted to the burn unit of Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Anwar Hossain, resident medical officer of the hospital, said 15 to 25 per cent of bodies of two child labourers were burnt. Another child labourer is out of danger, he added. The fire, broke out at ‘Al Noor Workshop’ at around 5 pm yesterday, originated from an electric short circuit, the fire service sources said.
Student killed in Meherpur road crash
MEHERPUR: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident at Meherpur town area on Jarubaria road yesterday morning. The deceased is Habibur Rahman, 20, a second year student of Jhenidah Technical College and son of Jafar Ali of Jarubaria village in Sadar upazila of the district. Locals said the accident occurred when a speedy goods laden truck rammed the motorcycle from behind in the area killing Habibur Rahman on the spot. The driver and helper of the truck managed to flee from the accident site leaving the vehicle immediate after the accident. Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Meherpur thana, said the body was rescued from the spot and sent to hospital for postmortem, reports BSS.
Nazrul festival concludes in Khulna
KHULNA: A three-day divisional Nazrul Utshab ended in Khulna on Thursday at the auditorium of Khulna Officers Club of the city. Participants of the programme said the songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam, like his literature, bear not only the theme of love and devotion but also protests against various forms of oppression. “With the boom of electronic media, popularization of Nazrul Sangeet, poems and drama should be easier if the singers, performers and the media play an effective role in this regard,” said Auditor General and Controller noted writer Masud Ahmed as chief guest. The three day programme concluded last night with discussion meeting, prize distribution and cultural function. The programme was jointly organized by the Khulna District Administration and Nazrul Birth Festival Observation Committee. The festival was divided into two sessions: one featured discussion on the life and achievements of Nazrul, and the other had performances of recitations, songs and drama, reports BSS.
Fire halts production at Fenchuganj Fertiliser Factory

The authorities suspended production at Fenchuganj Fertilizer Factory on Thursday following a fire incident. The fire originated from a drain at the factory in the evening, said Abdul Khalek, officer-in-charge of Fenchuganj Police Station. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. A probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident, added the OC.
6 UP chairman-elects take oaths in Sylhet
Six newly-elected chairmen of union parishad (UPs) in Sylhet district were sworn in on Wednesday morning. District administrator Joinal Abedin administered oaths to 6 chairmen of Companiganj upazilas at a function at the conference room of the deputy commissioners office in the morning. Six newly-elected chairmen are Shah Jamaluddin in Poschim Islampur,Babul miah in Purbo islampur,Abdul Wadud Alfu in Telikhal,Firiduddin in Uttor Ronikai, Siddikur rahman in Dakkin Ronikay,Hiji Kuti miah in Eshakholosh Union Parished Additional district administrator Shohidul islam chawdhury,Companiganj UNO Alamgir kobir and other official were also present at the function.
