Failed SSC examinee commits suicide in Barisal

A meritorious student and SSC examinee of Barisal Udayon School committed suicide after knowing his result as ‘failed’ on Wednesday afternoon. The victim was identified as Satyajit Ghosh Sijan alias Ridoy, 17, and son of jewelry businessman Shekhar Ghosh of the city.Family sources said Ridoy was a meritorious student of science group and passed with better marks in all subjects except ‘Religion’ in SSC 2016. After knowing his result as failed Ridoy becoming sentimental went top floor of a neghbouring under construction building at Pereira Road area of the city. From there Ridoy jumped to the ground for committing suicide at about 1:30 PM. He was rushed to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and admitted at surgery ward. However Ridoy died during treatment there at about 2:30 PM Wednesday, said Dr. Khalid Mahmud, assistant register of the ward. Ataur Rahman, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said dead body handed over to family members after autopsy and lodging a case of unnatural death.
Robbery committed at Christian missionary in Jessore

A man was beaten to death after a robbery committed at a Christian missionary at Shimulia under Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore early Tuesday, said Mollah Khabir Ahmed, officer in-charge, Jhikargachha police station. The OC told that suspected robber Mosharraf Hossain Lalu, 35 of Meherpur died on the spot in a mob beating while three others- Monirul, 32 and Aminul of Char Bisnupur village in Faridpur district and Sujon, 33 of Char Kamarkandi in Madaripur district were wounded after a robbery was committed at a Christian missionary at Shimulia early on Tuesday. The wounded were undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital in police custody, the OC added. Chief priest of the missionary Father Ananda Sebastian told that armed robbers numbering about 30 have taken away goods worth about Tk 3 lakh after committing robbery at around 1am on Tuesday. ‘The robbers did it after tied up 11 child inmates of the missionary,’ father added. Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police visited the sport on Tuesday morning. The OC told that a case was lodged with the police station in this connection.
SCC starts demolishing City Super Market

Sylhet City Corporation has started demolishing work of a commercial building City Super Market vulnerable to earthquake Tuesday morning as part of its decision to knock down such 32 residential and commercial buildings. The three-storey building of City Super Market’s second-floor’s demolition work has initiated, said Enamul Habib, chief executive officer of SCC, adding, the traders are given a two and half months to evacuate other floors.
After demolishing two residential buildings on April 21 and May 8, the commercial building’s demolishing work has started, he added.
Two held with Yaba
RAB arrested Two man along with 252 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets at Sylhet Railway Station on Sundaynight . “We arrested a drug peddlerHussain (20).Bilal (20) and sized 252 pieces of Yaba tablets at Sylhet Railway Station around 10am thisnight,” RAB sources said. A case was filed to this end.
