Training for tea garden managers begin

Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board Maj Gen Md Shafinul Islam said Saturday there has been no alternative to develop the country’s tea sector as the demand of the item is increasing at home and abroad. Tea is the most popular and cheap drink around the world, he said. Mr Islam was addressing the inaugural session of a six-day training programme as the chief guest arranged for the tea garden managers at the Tea Board Auditorium at Srimangal. Director of Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI) Dr Main Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the event while Bangladeshio Cha Sangsad’s Sylhet circle chairman GM Shibli was the special guest. About 42 tea garden managers are taking part in the event. With a view to researching on the country’s tea sector, the institute was established in 1957 at Srimangal, known as tea capital of Bangladesh. The annual course is being organised since 1963.
SUST Alumni Assoc formed
A 35 convening committee of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Alumni Association was announced on Saturday. Earlier, SUST VC Prof Aminul Haque Bhuyan approved the committee on February 1. Md Farid Alam, member of the committee, announced the committee members’ names at a press conference on the campus on Saturday afternoon. In his written speech, Farid Alam said a 35-member convening committee was approved by VC for one year and VC has also asked to create a constitution and formed a full-flange committee. He said, former student of Chemistry Department Md Mokaddus Ali and former student of Economic Department Rotarian Md Gulam Azad was made as convener and member secretary respectively while three were made as joint conveners and 30 others as members.
Gold ornaments looted from jewelry shops in Madaripur
Madaripur: Robbers looted 30-35 tolas of gold ornaments from three shops in Miarhat area of Kalkini upazila early Monday. Kripa Sindu Bala, officer-in-charge of Kalkini Police Station, said a gang of robbers, numbering 5-6, stormed into three jewelry shops – Joy Jewelers, Moushumi Jewelers and Anchal Jewelers-in area around 2am. When locals tried to resist the robbers, they opened fire at them, which left Swapan Kazi, 30, a resident of the area, bullet injured, added the OC. The shop owners alleged that the robbers looted 30-35 tolas of gold ornaments from the three shops, reports UNB.
Acquiring knowledge on ICT stressed

The law maker of Jhenaidah -1 constituency Abdul Hyee said, the overall development of education or any other sector can not be ensured if the modern technology especially, information and communications technology is not applied there. The law maker was speaking at a function arranged by the upazila secondary education office following the inauguration of 125 Upazila Training and Resource Centre for Education by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday morning. Presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sailkupa Didarul Alam Abdul Hye was speaking as chief guest. The chief guest said, the dream implementer and also the daughter of the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s government achieving success each and every sector in her tenures as the country is on the way to remove illiteracy, poverty and inequality.

Only knowledge-based education can ensure justice and peace in the country. Upazila secondary Education Officer Shamim Ahmed Khan, Principal Kabirul Islam and Masud Karim among others spoke. The law maker inaugurated the training session for the secondary level teachers switching the button of the projector screen later.

Two held for violating school girl

Police operating drive at Barodulali village under Gournadi upazila of Barisal district on early Monday arrested two persons for violating a school girl after kidnapping .
The arrested two were Abdul Kader Sardar, 22, the alleged rapists and Zaherjan Fakir, 26, his associate. Victim sent to Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital for medical test and recording confessional statement before the judicial official on Monday.
On other hand, the arrested two accused placed before judicial magistrate court at Barisal on Monday noon and Md. Shihabuddin, magistrate of the court, rejecting their bail prayer sent them to jail at afternoon, the police sources said. Alauddin Milon, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said a 14-year old girl student of class nine of Bakai Niranjan School was abducted from her house at Magura-Kuniakandi village by a gang of miscreants led by Abdul Kader Sardar on February 24 afternoon. Kader keeping the victim at different places violated her several times.
Mother of the victim on Sunday night lodged a case of abduction accusing Kader and his associates.
Police operating drive recovered the victim and arrested aforesaid two from a house at Baro Dulali village on early Monday.
