Road mishap kills cop in Jessore

A police constable was killed in road mishap at Bijoynagar on the Jessore- Jhenaidah Road at around 1pm on Tuesday. The dead was identified as Firoj Chowdhury, 24 who was worked as a police constable at Khulna police line and son of Abul Kalam Chowdhury of Durgapur village under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore. Biplob Hossain, sub -inspector, Kotwali police station told New Nation that the policeman died on the spot as goods laden ran over his motorbike while he was going to his village home. Sheikh Goni Mia, acting officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that the policeman was working as a constable at Khulna police line. Post mortem examination of the dead was made at Jessore Medical College Hospital.

FBCCI chairman visits Jhenaidah

Bangladesh will be signing star of the world in near future and the dreams of the business community as well as the interest of the people will be fulfilled, said the president of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Nitol, Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed. He was speaking at a seminar at Dr. K Ahmed Municipal Community Centre in Jhenaidah town on Tuesday afternoon. Jhenaidah Chamber of Commerce and Industry arranged the programme titled “Doings for Expansion of Industry and Commerce”.Presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Jhenaidfah Mahbubul Alam Talauakader, the FBCCI President was speaking as the chief guest. Lawmaker Abdul Hayee, SAARC Chamber president and vice president of FBCCI Mahbubul Alam, Director Dilip Kumar Agarwal, Bazlur Rahman, Prabir Kumar Saha, Nizam Uddin, Nagibul Alam, superintendent of police in Jhenaidah Altaf Hossain, Jhenaidah Chamber president Mir Nasir Uddin among others participated in the discussion.

Shaheed Asad Dibas observed in Barisal

The 47th anniversary of the 1969 mass uprising and martyrdom of Shaheed Asad observed in Barisal on Wednesday. The participants of the programme also called on all the countrymen to be united in the fight to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty. They said that the best way to honour the sacrifices of the heroes of the uprising of 1969 is to institutionalise democracy and establish the basic and human rights of the people. They demanding completing construction of memorials at the martyrdom-place called to include objective history of the mass uprising movement, its leaders and achievements in the educational curriculum of the country.
