Italy expat’s house looted in Sylhet

Armed miscreants looted valuables and money from the house of an expatriate at village Talikona under Bishonath upazila under Sylhet district early hours Friday. About 12 armed men of the gang entered the house by breaking open the door and beat the inmates mercilessly. They tied them with ropes and looted Saudi currency, gold ornament, cell phone etc worth Tk 7,00000 from the house at gunpoint, informed Badsha Miha, Father of Aziruddin, who returned home 2 weeks ago from Italy. The miscreants reached the house by boat and managed escaping the scene after looting since it is located on an isolated side of the village. Officer- In- Charge of Bishonath police station Md. Rofikul Hossain said, police would investigate into the incident.

Two Jamaat leaders arrested in Barisal

Police arrested two leaders of Jamaat- e- Islami Bangladesh on early Monday from their residences at Syed Hatem Ali College Road and Fakirbari Road areas of the city. The arrested two were identified as Amanullah, ‘rokan’ of district JIB and Abdul Awal, JIB president of ward-17.Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said the JIB leaders were arrested for planning area-wise agitation procession demanding release of convicted war criminals and their central leaders.The arrestees sent to jail Monday evening as accused under special power act, OC Kotwali PS told.
ADB mission exchanges views with poura councillors
Faridpur: A delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Syed Khatib Alam, a senior climate-resilient integrated urban planning expert of the bank based in Manila, held a daylong view exchange meeting with Faridpur Pourasabha councilors and leading citizens of the town on Monday. Faridpur Pourasabha Mayor Sheikh Mahatab Ali Methu presided over the meeting. At the very outset of the meeting, Town Planner Saiful Islam presented some salient features of the municipality before the visiting team. The meeting discussed in detail various issues, including disaster management, water treatment, sludge management, solid waste management and traffic management. Syed Khatib Alam stressed the need for building and expanding the town in a planned manner and said otherwise it will create a hazardous situation making the lives of citizens miserable, reports BSS.
Husband sued for torturing wife in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: A female primary school teacher filed a case against her husband under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act here in Monday for torturing her for dowry. The complainant, Umme Kulsum.25, wife of Abul Hashem, a resident of Bagichapara in Durgapur upazila headquarters of the district, is a teacher of Susang Government Primary School. According to the case statement, Abul Hashem, a resident of Ujanpara village in Trishal upazila of Mymenshingh district, had married Umme Kulsum, daughter of Abdul Mannan of Bagichapara village in Durgapur upazila of Netrakona district ten years back. Since then, Hashem had been demanding Tk two lakh as dowry from his in-law’s house, reports UNB.
