Woman stabbed dead in Panchagarh

A woman was stabbed to death by some miscreants at Nordebpara village in Sadar upazila on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Hamida Begum, 50, wife of late Kasir Uddin. Local people said a group of people swooped on the house of Hamida and stabbed her indiscriminately while she was saying Magrib prayers, leaving her dead on the spot. On information, police rushed in and sent the body to Panchagarh Modern Hospital Morgue for an autopsy. The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, Mominurl Islam.

2 factories fined Tk 2 lakh in Keraniganj
KERANIGANJ: A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in two separate drives has fined Tk two lakh to two food factories for manufacturing vermicelli and juice in unhygienic conditions in Keraniganj town on Thursday. The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Anisur Rahman, conducted the raid at Life Touch Agro Food Limited (LTAFL) at Kalandi area and fined Tk 1.50 lakh. It also fined Tk 50,000 to Suma Food Products (SFP), a vermicelli factory in Kushierbagh area of the town. During the drive, the court also arrested the factory owners, Gias Uddin and Rada Kanta Das. The court is comprised of members of the RAB and police, reports BSS.
One gets life for possessing heroin in Pabna
PABNA: A court here on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for possessing heroin in 2013. The convict was identified as Sarwar Hossain, 36, son of Mansur Rahman of Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district. The court also fined him Tk 10,000. According to the prosecution, police in a drive arrested Sarwar along with 100 grams of heroin from Gachpara in Pabna district town on May 5, 2013. After examining records and 11 witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Obaidus Sobhan handed down the verdict, reports UNB.

Madrasa girl commits suicide in Sylhet

A female madrasa student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a tree at Bhitar village in Jaintapur upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Tahmina Akter,13, daughter of Bashir Ahmed and a student of Kharilhat Qaumi Madrasa. Police said family members found the body of Tahmina hanging with a tree behind their house at about 1:00 pm and informed them. Later, the law enforcers recovered the body in the afternoon. Sub-inspector of Jaintapur Police Station Abdul Mannan said the reason behind the incident could not be ascertained immediately. A UD case was filed in this connection.

Husband gives confessional statement over killing wife

Husband gave confessional statement at Barisal court on Monday about killing wife for dowry on early Sunday at remote Talukdar Char Adarsha Gram under Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal. Ujjal Kumar Dey, Mehendiganj police station officer in charge, said police after informed by the neighbours reached at the remote area on Sunday noon and recovering the dead body of housewife Shathi Akter, 20, arrested Sumon Munshi, husband, and Farida Begum, mother-in-law of the victim. Sathi and Sumon, both from the same area, married two-year ago and have an 8-month old daughter. Anis Haoladar, brother of Sathi, lodged a case against her husband and mother-in-law and Wahidul and Kabul, two brother-in-laws on Sunday night, the OC Mehendiganj PS told.
