Nazrul festival starts in Barisal
The two-day long Nazrul Festival to mark the 116th birth anniversary of the Rebel and National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam started in Barisal Sunday morning.The festival organised with theme of ‘the bird of paradise at the address of earth (Mortyer Thikanae , Swarger Pakihi)’ in Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city calling to establish Bangladesh as a country free from all sorts of superstitions, oppressions and discriminations. Barisal district administration with the assistance of district Shilpakala Academy arranged the program. The government, socio-political and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Barisal unit of Nazrul Parishad, Shilpakala Academy, Barisal Natak attending the programmes of the festival. Discussions, cultural events like competitions, performing recitations, songs, music and dance based on the life and works of the poet marking the festival. Shohidul Alam,DC, Barisal, inaugurated the program attended as the chief guest by paying floral tributes at the portrait of the Rebel and National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The inauguration session was presided over by Abdullah Al Mamun, additional deputy commissioner Barisal and convener of the festival and addressed among others by Advocate SM Iqbal and cultural activist Akkas Hosssain.
8 injured in AL factional clash
At least eight activists were injured in clashes between rival factions of ruling Awami League over Shayestabad union unit conference of the party at Barisal city skirt on Sunday noon. Police charging baton controlled the situation. Witnesses said conference to form new committee of the Shayestabad union AL started under a tensed situation on Sunday morning at local school field presided over by Sadar upazila AL president Manirul Islam Chhobi. Leaders of rival groups led by Rubel Hossain Talukdar alias Mamun backed by district AL president and lawmaker of Barisal-1 Abul Hasanat Abdullah and his rival Sultan Ahmed Master backed by city AL leader and lawmaker Jebunnesa Afroz, were contesting for presidency of the union AL unit.
1 killed, 6 hurt by lightning

One person was killed and six others were injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in the different places of Goinghat upazila on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Ayub Ali,43, son of late Samar Ali of Purba Dighirpar village while the injured were Imam Uddin,35, Gias,18, Jabbar,35, Aftar,45, Jamir,45, and Khaled,48, residents of Hatirpara village of the upazila.Locals said Ayub died on the spot as a thunderbolt struck him while he was returning home at Bekra at about 4:00 pm. In another incident, six people of Hatirpara village of the upazila were injured after being hit by a streak of thunderbolt at about 6:00 pm, said MA Hye, officer-in-charge of Goinghat Police Station. Of the injured, Imam Uddin was admitted to Sylhe OsmaniMedicalCollegeHospital as his condition deteriorated
