Guinea sets March 22 for controversial constitutional referendum

Guinea’s President Alpha Conde has set March 22 for the constitutional referendum on his proposed reforms that opponents worry will allow him to bypass term limits and stay in power.
The vote, originally set for March 1 but delayed over local and international concerns about its fairness, will take place at the same time as legislative elections, a presidential decree said on Friday.

Poland cannot rule out postponing a presidential election set for May because of the coronavirus pandemic, although no such decisions have been taken up to date, Deputy Internal Affairs Minister Pawel Szefernaker said on Saturday.
“The election is in two months. We will see. The coming days will be key and as this disease develops in Poland we will be observing this and taking further decisions. There is not such a decision today, but it does not mean that it is ruled out,” Szefernaker told private radio RMF FM.

Brazilian President tests negative for coronavirus

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Friday he had tested negative for the new coronavirus, after a scare over a trip on which at least one infected member of his staff rubbed shoulders with Donald Trump.
“The Armed Forces Hospital and (diagnostic laboratory) Sabin have returned a negative test result for COVID-19 for the President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro,” said a post on the far-right leader’s Facebook page.

Road accident claims 11 lives in western India

As many as 11 people died and three injured in a road accident in India’s western state of Rajasthan on Saturday, a local cop told Xinhua over phone.
The dead included six women, four men and one child, said the cop adding that the mishap occurred in the state’s Jodhpur district. According to the cop, the victims were natives of Barmer district of the state.
