Roadside illegal structures evicted in Rajshahi

In an eviction drive, Roads and Highways Department and Rajshahi City Corporation on Thursday demolished more than 50 illegal shops, structures at Nowdapara area in the city. The drive, led by RCC nirbahi magistrate Somar Kumar Paul and RHD nirbahi engineer in Rajshahi Mohammod Shamsuzzoha, was conducted from Nowdapara Aamchattar area to Airport road. Somar Kumar Paul said, a notice to evict the illegal shops and structures a month ago was sent to the illegal possessors but some of them did not pay any heed as those shops and structures has been demolished. The three day-long eviction drive was aimed at removing illegal shops, structures on sidewalks and pavements to implement the four-lane highway project from Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Chattar to Nowhata Bridge.
Fire guts madrasa in Chandpur

Two rooms of a newly set up madrasa were gutted by a devastating fire, that originated from electric short circuit early Wednesday at Baishpur area in Matlab Sadar beside the newly constructed Matlab Shetu. The name of the madrasa is Madrasa e Modinatul Monwara. It has about 80 students and teachers. It is run by private management. It is located just beside Matlab Shetu at Baishpur village under Matlab Municipal area. Neighbour Abul Khayer Mollah and others have told this correspondent that they saw fire at around 1.15 am and were shouting fire fire for help. Then the locals and fire brigade team led by Station Officer Asaduzzaman rushed and started to douse the flames. After over one hour’s frantic efforts, the fire fighters brought the flames under control. While extinguishing fire a few( five or six) local people sustained injuries. As a result of the fire incident, the students books and the madrasa authority have suffered loss about Tk 5/6 laks – according to a primary estimate of fire fighters and Police officials. Madrasa Super Mohammad Rokonuzzman said that there are about 8o studetns and teachers in this madrasa. Panel Mayor Abul Bashar Miaji, Khatib of Matlab Bazar Jamey Maosque Maulana Md Kabir Ahmed and UNO Fahmida Huque visited the devastated madrasa on 25 December and assured to help and assistances in future..
UCBL, Sylhet Range Police sign agreement

United Commercial Bank Limited has recently signed an agreement with Bangladesh Police, Sylhet Range on e-trafficking prosecution and fine payment system. DIG of Sylhet Range Md. KamrulAhsan BPM (Bar), Additional DIG of Sylhet Range Joydeb Kumar Bhadra BPM; Sydul H Khandaker, Program Director of Digital Financial Services, UCB and Hasan Mohammad Zahid, FAVP, MFS of UCB along with other officials of both the organizations were present in the signing ceremony held at Range DIG Office, Sylheton December 11, said a press release. Under this agreement, people of four districts under Sylhet Range (Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj and Moulvibazar) will be able to pay their ÒE-Traffic ProsecutionÓ fine through UCash.
