Transparencies in using climate change fund demanded

Participants at a human chain in Sylhet on Sunday demanded transparencies, justice and accountabilities in distribution and using climate change fund and focusing issues. They also called to confront the climate change issue at upcoming COP 20 of United Nation as one of the biggest threats against human rights, justice and national security in Bangladesh. Speakers of that programme, held in front of Central Shahid Miner of the city, specially focused the impact of climate change on the 15 million reverie and coastal area people. Sylhet unit of Conscious Citizen Committee (CCC), local unit of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), arranged the programme. The programme addressed among others by Erfanuzzaman Chy, Rina Debi, Faruk Mahmud Chy, AK Seram, Lakhikantho Shinho, Nazmol Haque rights and development organisation activists. They calling for climate change justice with compensations, adaptation grants blamed rich countries for prevailing global climatic situation and suggested long-term economic and socio development framework to resolve the effects of climatic change.

Easy bike driver found dead in Jessore

The body of a teen aged easy bike driver was recovered from a field at Dashpakhia village under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore. The body was recovered at around 3pm and was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital in the evening. The dead was identified as Yeamin Hossain Rabbi, 15, driver of an easy bike and alos a residence of Mangalhata village under Lohagara upazila in Narail district. Easy bike drivers brought out a protest procession tin the town in which they demanded arrest of the killers. But the officer in-charge of Chaugachha police station Akram Hossain told that no mark of torture was found in his body. It will be clear after post mortem examination.

Anniv of CHT accord observed in Barisal

Ruling Awami League and its front organiations on Tuesday morning holding procession and rally in the city-center and B M College campus areas observed 17th anniversary of Chittagong Hill Tract Accord. AL, BCL and front organization leaders addressing the rallies claimed that Abul Hasanat Abdullah playing vital role in signing that accord restored peace in the turbulent hill tract areas. Hasanat recognized the basic rights of the both settlers and ethnic people under ‘one country, one nation’ theme to strengthen sovereignty of the state, the speakers said.

Arms, ammo recovered on C’nawabganj border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered three pistols, six magazines and 12 rounds of bullet from Kaliganj area at Mankasha border point in Shibganj upazila early Wednesday. Additional director Major Sheikh M Mizanur Rahman of Chapainawabganj BGB Battalion-9 said on secret information, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and recovered three pistols, six magazines and 12 rounds of bullet in an abandoned condition. However, there was no arrest in this connection.
