3 food shops fined Tk 17,000 in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Three fast food shops were fined Taka 17,000 on charge of selling unhygienic and substandard foods to the customers in the city yesterday afternoon, officials concerned here said yesterday. A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted raid in Upashahar and Nawdapara markets and found Montu Varieties, Shahidullah Stores and Momena Fast Food Shopr preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition. Subsequently, the team fined Taka 17,000 against the shop owners and realized the fined money instantly. Saiful Islam, Assistant Director of DNCRP, told BSS that such drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will be continued during the days ahead for protecting the consumers’ rights together with freeing the human body from any food poisoning and other contamination.
10 hurt in Faridpur AL factional clash
Faridpur: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of local unit Awami League over a trifling matter at Rongrayerkandi village in Saltha upazila on Thursday. Quoting witnesses, police said Hafiz Fakir, a supporter of Abu Jafar, an executive member of the upazila unit Awami League, had an altercation with Makim Fakir, a supporter of Khairuzzaman Babu, president of the upazila unit Jubo League over cutting bamboo in the afternoon. At one stage, supporters of both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving 10 people injured. Of the injured, two were rushed to Nagarkanda upazila health complex. 20 houses were damaged during the hour long melee. On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. Police also arrested two people in connection with the incident, reports UNB.
4 get jail for taking and selling drugs in Nawabganj
KERANIGANJ: A mobile court here on Thursday sentenced four people to different jail terms for taking and selling drugs. The convicts are Sajal Bepari, 25, son of Mozammel Bepari of Komorganj village, Selim, 30, son of Abdul Aziz of Char Tuital village, Anik, 20, son of Selim of Surganj village, and Rajab, son of Jamal of Nurnagar village in the upazila. Sajal and Selim were sentenced to one year jail while Anik and Rajab were given six months’ jail. A team of mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer MD Rajibul Hasan pronounced the verdict when the four were produced before the court in the evening, said Abul Bashar, sub-inspector of Nawabganj Police Station. Earlier on Wednesday night, police in separate drives arrested the four young men from different parts of the upazila for allegedly taking and selling drugs, reports UNB.
FF killed in Jhenaidah road crash
JHENAIDAH: A freedom fighter was killed as a bus ran over him at Ahsannagar on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia road in Shailkupa upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Toazuddin,65, son of late Gopal Mandol of Tripurakandi village of the upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Shailkupa Police Station Tozammel Haque said a speeding bus of ‘Gorai Paribahan’ ran over Toazuddin in the area while he was returning home from Vatai Bazar at about 5:00 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
