One rapist held in Sylhet

A fourth-grader schoolgirl was raped by two youths at Khursupur village in Osmaninagar Upazila on Saturday. Locals said the girl was collecting some vegetables from the field near her house in the morning around 10 am.
Then Ismail and his associate Hafizur ushered the girl to an under construction building site where they forcibly violated her. Hearing the screaming of the girl, locals rushed in when the rapists managed to flee from the scene. Later, the girl was taken to one stop crisis center at Osmani Medical College Hospital, locals added. Al-Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station, said soon after the incident, police arrested one rapist -Ismail, 26, son of Chadik Ullah of the village. Police started conducting drives to arrest the other rapist Hafizur. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
Motorcyclist killed in Gopalganj road crash  
GOPALGANJ: A motorcyclist was killed and 20 other people were injured as a bus hit a motorcycle in Dhopabhita area of Muksudpur upazila on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Yasin, 28, son of Farid, a resident of Nowhata village in Mochna union of the upazila. Mostafa Kamal Pasha, officer-in-charge of Muksudpur Police station, said the bus crashed into the motorcycle and then hit a roadside three around 7:15 am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving motorcyclist Yasin dead on the spot and 20 bus passengers injured. The injured were taken to Muksudpur upazila health complex, reports UNB.
5 illegal electricity connections snapped in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A mobile court snapped five illegal power connections of Palli Bidyut at Chandiapara village in Kachua upazila on Monday afternoon. The mobile court, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ruman Dey, along with Zonal Palli Bidyut Deputy General Manager Md Jahangir Alam conducted a drive and severed the electricity connections, reports UNB.
‘Arms trader’ held with firearms in C’nawabganj  
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a suspected drug trader along with arms from Balutungi area in Bholahat upazila recently. The arrestee is Shahadat Hossain, 20, son of Monirul Islam, a resident of Jhaubon area in the upazila. A press release of Rab-5, said that team of Rab-5 conducted the drive in the area around 8pm and arrested Shahadat along with a pistol, one round of bullet and a magazine, reports UNB.
 4 firearms recovered in Sundarbans  
BAGERHAT: Members of Coast Guard recovered four firearms from the Sundarbans in Mrigmari area of Monga upazila recently . Being tipped off that a gang of forest robbers was staying in the area, a team of Coast Guard conducted a drive in the area around. Sensing the presence of the coast guard members, the forest robbers fled the scene. Later, the team recovered the firearms. The arms were handed over to Mongla thana police, reports UNB.
