Iraq violence kills 71 civilians in July: UN

Violence across Iraq killed 71 civilians in July, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said Wednesday.A UNAMI statement added that 82 civilians were wounded in the terror attacks and armed conflicts in Iraq in the past month. It said the number of casualties did not include Iraqi troops and security members killed and wounded, as the Iraqi military declined to give such information.

US Congress massively cuts Pak’s defence aid

Amidst tensions in bilateral ties, the US Congress has passed a defence spending bill capping its security-related aid to Pakistan at $150 million, significantly below the historic level of more than $1 billion per year. The National Defense Authorisation Act-2019 (NDAA-19), however, removes certain conditions – like action against Haqqani Network or the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — as was the case in the past few years for disbursement of US aid to Pakistan.

US charges 3 Ukrainians in payment card

Three Ukrainians have been arrested on criminal hacking charges including stealing payment card numbers, in attacks on more than 100 U.S. companies that cost businesses tens of millions of dollars, the U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday.
U.S. prosecutors alleged that the three Ukrainians, who were arrested in Europe between January and June, are members of FIN7, a notorious cybercrime gang.

3 foreign nationals killed in Kabul

Terrorists kidnapped and killed three foreign nationals working for international food company Sodexo in Kabul on Thursday, deepening concerns about security of expatriates in Afghanistan. A senior diplomat and two Afghan security officials said the three worked as cooks at Sodexo, the world’s second-largest food and catering services company.

Bird flu hit Vietnamese city

Bird flu virus H5N6 has killed and led to the forced culling of some 10,000 fowls in one rural district of Vietnam’s northern Hai Phong city, according to the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Department on Thursday.
Thousands of ducks and chickens raised by two households in An Duong district died in a short period of time after being infected with the bird flu virus strain of H5N6.

9 killed in China’s road mishap
Xinhua, Guangzhou
Nine people were killed and two people were injured after a truck overturned and fell on two cars Wednesday in south China’s Guangdong Province, according to the local police. The accident occurred at around 2: 40 p.m. Wednesday near Youmayuan Village.
 Huidong County. A cement tanker truck overturned and fell on two cars passing by.
Nine people were confirmed dead after rescue work ended early Thursday morning. The injured were in stable condition.
