Tree Fair ends in Lalmonirhat

The concluding ceremony of the seven day- long Tree and Fruit Fair was held on Friday jointly organised by Lalmonirhat Agricultural Extension and Social Forest Department. The fair was started on 14 July. Shafiul Arif, DC was present as Chief Guest. The special guests were Additional Police Super (A- circle) Shushanta Sharker, Lalmonirhat Barta Editor Dr S M Shafiqul Islam ,the secretary of Lalmonirhat Krishibid institution Shah Alom. Deputy-Director of Agriculture Extension Department Bidhu Bhushan Ray presided over the programme. Inaugural speech was delivered by Assistant Director Hamidur Rahman. Invited guests, owners of nurseries, officers and office assistants of agriculture department and common farmers were presence in the meeting. Later prizes and certificates among nursery owners and tree plants among farmers were distributed.
Cultural Festival being held in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Discussants at a function here have put importance on attracting the young generation toward our own culture to help them becoming enlightened citizens with human values. They imperative was given at the launching ceremony of a two-day Cultural Festival- 2018 organised by the district administration under auspices of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on the Public Library ground in the city on Friday evening. The main objective of arranging the cultural festival simultaneously all over the country is to create awareness about our own culture among the people of all strata, including young generation and youths. Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib inaugurated the cultural festival by cutting ribbon. With Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam in the chair, Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hasan, former general secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, noted cultural personalities Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu and Monwar Hossain and District Cultural Affairs Officer Nujhat Tabassum spoke as special guests, reports BSS.
Suspected rapist `lynched’ in Jashore

A suspected rapist was `lynched’ at Jagannathpur village under Jessore sadar upazila at around 10:30 pm on Monday. The victim was identified as Ibadat Khan, 40, son of Habib Khan of Jagannathpur village. Sub inspector Hayat Mahmud, in-charge, Basundia police camp told that the man was rushed to Jessore General Hospital after being beaten up by a mob at his locality. The man earlier, strangled Meherunnesa, 70, of the village after raping her at his residence on July 16, said the police official. Dr Abdur Rashid, medical officer, Jessore General Hospital told journalists that the man brought dead at the hospital at around 12 midnight on Monday.
