150 shops gutted in Mymensingh
MYMENSINGH: Around 150 shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out from a Hawkers market in Ganginarpar area in the town on Thursday morning. Police said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit around 5.30 am. Being informed, nine fire service units rushed to the spot and doused the fire at 10am, Shahidur Rahman, deputy director (in-charge) of Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defense said. As most of the shops at the market are shoes and garments, so the flame of fire spread rapidly, said the official, reports BSS.
View exchange meet of journalists held

Under the auspices of SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat and with the inspiration of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) a meeting was held in its local office on Wednesday in the afternoon in order to exchange of views with the working journalists of Bagerhat district town with its president Prof Chowdhury Abdur Rob in the chair. Prof ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Vice-president of the organization explained the need and importance of holding such a meeting in his address of welcome. Prof Chowdhury Abdur Rob, president of the organization read out the concept paper in the meeting. It was addressed among others by Ahad Uddin Haidar, President of Bagerhat Press Club, Abdul Baki Talukdar, General Secretary and journalists Adv M Mozaffor Hossain, Nihar Ranjon Saha, Ahsanul Karim, Yamin Ali, Azadul Haq and Azmal Hossain. All the speakers opined that the main targets and objects of both SANAC (TIB) and journalists were almost same as they both were wanting to eradicate all kinds of corruptions from the country as well as from the society in order to establish transparency, good governance and accountability in all respects of the country and as well as in the society. In honour of the journalists an Iftar party was arranged there. The meeting was conducted by SANAC member Babul Sardar.
Iftar Mahfil held in Bogura

 Iftar Mahfil of English Cultural Organaisation (ECO) was held at its office premises under Sadar upazila of Bogura district on Friday. Before the Iftar party a discussion meeting was arranged by English Batch 2003-04 of Government Azizul Haque Collage on importance of the holy Ramzan. Upazila Assistance Education Officer Bulbul Ahmed, Siddiqur Rahman, lecturer of Sayed Ahmed Collage Adbul awal, headmaster Abdur Razzak, Arup Kumar, journalist Emdadul Haque , Bulet Hossain, banker Mahidul Islam Babu, Firoz Hossain and Azizul Haque spoke among others in the function.
Woman held with hemp in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a woman along with hemp from Bhajondanga village in the upazila headquarters on Friday. The arrestee was identified as Marjina Begum, 50, of the village. Being informed, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area in the morning and arrested the woman along with one kilogram of hemp, said Additional Superintendent of police Md Rais Uddin, company commander of RAB-8.Marjina have been carrying out drug business in the area for long, he added. The detainee was handed over to Kotwali Police Station and a file was filed with the police station in this connection, reports UNB.
One held with drugs in Cumilla  
CUMILLA: Police arrested a suspected drug trader along with drugs from Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Moynamati cantonment area early Tuesday. The arrestee was identified as Sohag, son of Tasir Ahmed of Char Jamuna area in Charfasson upazila of Bhola district, Sheikh Mahmudul Islam, officer-in-charge of antonment Police Station. Being tipped-off, a team of police intercepted a Dhaka-bound cement-laden truck and arrested Sohag along with 500 bottles of Phensidyl and 30 kilogram of hemp.
